Down at the old ballyard I remember seeing some of the greatest talents there ever were. Cobb, Wagner, Young, Ruth, Johnson were some of my favorites. One of my most vivid memories was one day at the yard I spent with Walter Johnson, then manager of the Cleveland Indians ballclub, in 1934. They was trying out these new hats being made by the New Era hat company, out of the great city of Buffalo, New York. The boys really took to the fine wool hats that day, and since then all the ballplayers have felt the same way. From their tiny origins in a small shop in Buffalo after the first Great War in 1920, Ehrhardt Koch grew his hat empire to now nearly 2,000 employees and over $300 million in revenue. Now the exclusive hat of all professional ballplayers, New Era's 59fifty style fitted hat is the gold standard of American head apparel. The quality and craftsmanship is such that the youths of this great country go to great lengths to proudly display the 59fifty gold emblem on their headwear to this very day.
